The pilgrimage of the pastel de nata
Another European adventure with Boni’s parents we started our search for the best pastel de nata... we started in Lisbon...wow how beautiful....a romantic, colourful town, phenomenal architecture and out of this world food...actually this sums up all of the paces we visited in Portugal! We sampled pastel de nata from 5 different places in Lisbon...the best was from Manteigaria for sure. From Lisbon we drove to Sintra and explored a palace with enchanting gardens, stopped in at a fairy tale village called Obidos, before continuing to Nazare. Nazare was very stunning, a Portuguese seaside town known for its big wave surf competitions ...the waves were HUGE. Watching the sunset from the high cliffs was beautiful. Once again with pastel de nata on our minds, we found an award winning pastel de nata place in a small village, the bakery was very elaborate and we ate outside in the sun looking at a magical old building across the quaint square. Next was Porto, where we focused again on the amazing food and port houses which are the soul of the town.
