Ice breaker ... Estonia and Finnland
Rugged up with all necessary layers we spent 24 hours in Helsinki, sampling cinnamon buns and staring mesmerised at the large sheets of ice in the waterways. It was an interesting city, not sure we fully experienced it though not one we will go back again any time soon.
We then jumped onto a ferry across to Tallinn. This short trip across the Gulf of Finnland was a experience in itself, referred to as a booze cruise and it did not fail to live up to its name. Due to the high cost of alcohol in Finnland, the locals travel across to Estonia for the to buy cheap booze to take home….or just for the boat ride back.
Arriving in Tallinn we were truly an amazed at how awesome the city is, a gorgeous old town, beautiful square, old city walls still in tact, all sprinkled with the most perfect covering of fresh snow - what is not to love. Now the food... SOOOOO GOOOD! The quality of the food was super impressive, we were eating like kings and queens for very reasonable prices (highlight was the deer steak with an amazing bottle of local red wine). Would highly recommend.
