All types of ‘feliz’ in Spain
(happy = feliz)
And so begins our four month adventure, long way home. From Malaga we set off along the South Western coast of Spain, spending the day at Tarifa. If you look Tarifa up on the map you will see it is a super Southern point in Spain that is also only a short distance away from the top of Africa - very cool to standing on the shore of Spain looking out across Africa! Here we had our first encounter with the delightful Tuna steaks of the region - yum!
We spent the next few nights in the coastal hilltop town of Facinas. A beautiful shack, with views spanning the rolling hills and beyond to the ocean. We used this time to switch into holiday mode, making the most of the outdoor living our basic shack encouraged. Chris had a massive win with a €7 haircut in this tiny town - the barber nailed it considering there was no common language. We explored stunning wild beaches along the coastline including; Bolonia, Playa de Los Castillejos - and of course continued to sample the local tuna (delicious!!!). Our minds, hearts and tummies had definitely entered holiday mode, and were truly ‘feliz’.
(refer to Faro post for next few days)
The focus quickly turned to sherry, as we stayed in 2 of the 3 main sherry towns, Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlúcar de Barrameda. We loved trying the 7 or so different types of sherry that the region was producing and found ourselves being super ‘feliz’ each night after numerous glasses. We particularly loved Amontillado, Olorosso, and Pedro Ximinez. We also loved the architecture and quality tapas.
We finished off with a day exploring Arcos de la Frontera, with its majestic old town set up very high on the cliff - it was really something, as if straight out of a fairy tale.
The ‘felicidad’ hit new extremes as some of our good friends from London joined us for a few days in a massive house high up on a mountain in Comares. Safe to say it was the ultimate party house...enjoying way too much pool time, bat and ball competitions, beersbie (facilitated by Dan of course), and many a beverage. We also made sure Mark had a great ‘cumplianos feliz’ (happy birthday) - thanks for sharing it with us!! Was an absolute treasure to spend quality time with some of nearest and dearest - the ultimate send off - confirmed in that moment we were going to miss hanging out with this crew a lot!!!
