An epic Christmas and New Years
With the cold weather now set in, we headed to Austria to lap up some time snowboarding. We flew into Salzburg and explored and tasted the flavours of the massive Christmas market. The biggest hit was the Bosna (Austrian hot dog that is all kinds of amazing) and mulled cider! We then drove down to Zell Am See, spending the next 4 days exploring the amazing mountains (Kaprun was a tonne of fun to snowboard!). The town itself is beautiful, set on the edge of a lake, surrounded by snow covered mountains. We got smatterings of fresh snow in the town each day ... a white Christmas!!!!! Christmas Day, we boarded and then came home to cook up a massive roast dinner...Chris smashed it out of the ballpark, it was wonderful!
We then drove to another ski resort, Bad Hofgastein. Again, many hours of pure bliss snowboarding (except for a terrifying old lift that literally spat you out down a skinny steep gradient - a challenge for Boni). The small town was cute and had an amazing perfectly groomed flat skiing track winding its way around - Chris was mesmerised with it (the skiers were seriously fit). After a few days we set out to drive back to Salzburg to then train up to Munich, we woke up early to leave only to find that some 30cm of snow had fell that night! The roads were not yet cleared, it was still puking down with snow, traffic was terrible and we had to make our train ...what should have been less than an hour drive took over two, but with a 20 min sprint finish (no joke) we made it with just 6 mins to spare (thanks for being a fab snow driver Chris).
New Years...we knew we had to do it well...so what better way than to go to a 36 hour rave in Berlin! We explored Berlin with our friends, the East Side Gallery was amazing. As we got closer to seeing the new year in, you could feel the atmosphere and anticipation building in the streets, soon the streets were filled with all kinds of people, everyone had way too many fireworks and the party atmosphere was inescapable. We danced in the streets with everyone, had a load of fun and then made our way to the rave. Well, we only lasted 6 hours but was a blast and really interesting to see how Berlin parties!
